Here is a review posted recently by a customer living in Seaford, Sussex.

We carefully cleaned their corner sofa, paying particular attention to the arms.

Our professional sofa cleaning solutions were massaged directly into the fibres, using a soft power brush. The fibres were then rinsed using a high airflow extractor and a professional enclosed upholstery cleaning specialist tool, leaving fabric in an almost new condition.

CONSIDERING CLEANING YOUR OWN SOFA? HERE IS A LIST OF ‘WHAT NOT TO DO’

We hope this information will help people to avoid damaging their furniture.

When undertaking the cleaning of their own sofa, individuals should refrain from the following actions:

1. Utilizing harsh chemicals: It is imperative to avoid the use of potent chemicals or bleach, as these substances can result in fabric damage or colour alteration.

2. Excessive saturation of the fabric: It is important to abstain from over-saturating the sofa with water or cleaning solutions, as this can precipitate the growth of mould and mildew.

3. Vigorous scrubbing: Individuals should avoid exerting excessive force during the scrubbing process, as this can lead to fibre damage and pilling.

4. Failure to conduct product testing: Neglecting to perform a preliminary test of cleaning products on a small, inconspicuous area of the sofa can result in unforeseen adverse reactions.

5. Disregarding manufacturer’s instructions: Neglecting the cleaning methods recommended by the manufacturer can potentially lead to unintended damage to the sofa.

What will you find in your sofa?

Here is an example of water recovered from carpet & sofas.

The contents are more than likely these –

  • Fuel dust
  • Skin
  • Sand
  • Dust mites
  • Pet hair / dander
  • Drink spillages
  • Body oils
  • Paint dust
  • Domestic cleaning sprays
Recovered water after carpet cleaning

Spillages & particulate are in your sofa fibres. The list above shows frequently removed content when we are cleaning. As a result of debris in the fibres, soft furnishings can suffer premature wear, especially from grit / sand build up. Annual professional cleaning is recommended for domestic furniture. This represents excellent economic sense.

Watch our sofa cleaning system in action

Watch our ECO upholstery cleaning system lift out every drop of a large hot chocolate spillage. Undoubtedly, our toxin free process is incredibly effective.

On arrival, this stain did look terminal. A huge brown splodge covering a large part of the seating area on the sofa. In this case, detailed preparation was needed.

Products were applied and agitated, in addition, the solution was allowed to dwell for 10 minutes.. When extraction started, we could see  the beverage lifting from the fabric. The video captures this well.

In this case, replacement furniture or re upholstery was not required. Within four hours the sofa was in service again!

What can you do to maintain your sofa and armchairs?

When a spillage or a stain lands on upholstery, what can you do to help the situation? Damage can sometimes be caused by attempts to clean.

  • Avoid the use of domestic  products, many of which contain bleaching agents and detergents.
  • Don’t scrub
  • Use a moist micro fibre cloth to gently agitate, blot and draw out the spill with a dry non colourfast cloth.
  • Fine mist with water (which is a solvent) leave for two minutes and blot the area.
  • Mist water and leave a dry terry towel on the area, place a heavy book on the towel, this will absorb moisture and the stain.

We hope this advice will help when you experience an accident in your home. If the stain remains, call us on 07802 177435 for our sofa cleaning services. If you need any advice or want us to drop in and inspect the areas.

Importantly, try to avoid creating a chemical cocktail with domestic cleaning sprays! As a result, colour loss or damage can often occur.

Areas visited with our professional sofa cleaning

Antique or delicate upholstery

Antique furniture requires specialist knowledge and cleaning methods.

Without a doubt, cleaning antique soft furniture requires specialist knowledge and experience. Cleaning fabric  furniture shown in the image must not be treated in the same way as a modern sofa. Lower levels of moisture must be used and non aggressive upholstery cleaning solutions, definitely important on this occasion.
